Swansea alumnus braving Arctic conditions
January 2009
Jonathan Stevens, aged 34, set off on a huskie-powered expedition earlier this month.
The Swansea alumnus, who studied Electrical Engineering and computer science in the 1990’s, will marshal six huskies as he treks 200 kilometres across Norway.
He and the team will face temperatures as low as -30˚C, so as part of his preparations, Jonathan turned the heating off at home! They will also face high winds and blizzards during their journey, and with only one hour of sunshine expected per day, the team will certainly face a huge challenge.
Jonathan is recording his progress on a daily blog at www.jonandthehuskies.blogspot.com. A recent entry describes his lessons in dog sledding on his first day, and how to keep his eyelids from freezing shut.
Jonathan hopes to raise £4,000 for Amnesty International from the expedition and donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/jonandthehuskies |
